This is just to give Theresia an idea of what kind of crops are grown in our area. The farms are mainly along the Tana River which is the only source of permanent water. NO major large scale farming are carried out here but small irrigation based cultivations( an example is the sweet melons farm shown in the picture above). Many fruits do well here. Some of the major ones include Mangoes, tomatoes, melons, pawpaw, quavas, bananas, orages. Other common crops include maize and canes.

Who would have known that such an arid region could yield such beautiful fruits. The maize, I can understand. Must be very tempting to the wildlife there that are herbivores, I would think. Thank you for sharing this with us. I pray for the day, when no one has to walk miles and miles, just to fetch water, it’s not right.
I hear there is a bad drought looming in your area and water is extremely scarce. The UN news agency IRIN is reporting that humans and wildlife are competing for the water:

Could you fill us in with some more detail?
Thanks Dipesh, for providing this link. This story illustrates the very reason why I’m so fanatical on this subject. Water is life! Greece is having water shipped to them. Most of Spain is in a drought. Australia is suffering through their worst drought in a century. Uganda has thousands dying because there has been no rainfall for a very long time. My heart aches for all creatures who have no water to drink.
